“UTILITY COORDINATION” … THE NEW FOUR LETTER WORD
Lets be honest, most in the design/build industry have run into problems in both phases (design or build) related to dry utilities. Whether it is waiting a ridiculous amount of time for the local utility company to return their approved designs of your systems or its running into an underground system not indicated on existing conditions plans. Most do not like to admit that they are held hostage by the standard process of “Dry Utility Coordination.” Dry utility coordination is now a four letter word. Mere coordination can be a long, bothersome, and expensive process. However, most teams are convinced it is just “the nature of the beast” and put up with this outdated, ineffective method of handling the project’s dry utilities.
Truth is the local utility has no incentive whatsoever to design on the behalf of your project’s budget or timeline. They are not part of your design or build team, so what determines their method of design? The answer is simple, Local Utility Standards. Often times they design systems that are more costly than your project actually needs. They pull out a huge binder and run through a standard process and create a “cookie-cutter” design. This would be ok if you were actually baking cookies, but your project is at stake here!
When you allow the local utility company to make your designs, you are missing out on potential savings. There are engineers who specialize in value designs that can save your project millions of dollars…literally!
In this FREE E-Book, I will share with you the top three (3) things the local utility company engineers do to harm your project’s timeline and budget … all with your permission. I will share a story of how a local Consulting firm saved a particular project over $9 million in utility relocation costs with one simple suggestion! This free resource will give you a new outlook on how to handle your next project’s utility issues.
